If nobody takes technology a step further, where would be? Back in the Stoneage I think, before they invented the wheel even. Imagine!

I personally think FF4 is a big improvement over its predecessors. It's a lot faster and I like the new security features. A few things have gone pear-shaped admittedly, but with IE9 reclaiming lost ground again, Mozilla was in a tight corner and was forced to release 4.0 before it had been thoroughly tested.

Anyway, do come back again if things don't work out as expected. ;)

I'll remember you advice regarding the updating. I'll be back. Hopefully not, but if necessary, I won't hesitate Thank you again.

Thank you, Xircal!

I was having the exact same problem as huskerdu was ("FF shows on the task bar shows running on task manager but I can not maximize it.")

The 2nd solution given (i.e., "Can you try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. To do that, hold down SHIFT while you click the desktop shortcut or quick launch icon. Then click the Continue without making changes button. If it works in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.") was the one that fixed my dilemma quickly and easily. I can't believe I found it so fast & easy: it was a freakin' miracle! LOL

However, instead of "continuing without changes" as you recommended, I did check the boxes to disable all Add-ons and Reset my default Firefox settings. It worked like a charm on the very first try.

In case this should help someone else with similar problems, I believe that the "Oberon Toolbar" that was automatically added to my browser when I downloaded a free trial version of one of Pogo.com's games was at least one of the major Add-on culprits. It auto-installed the following two Firefox Add ons without asking permission:

Tools--->Add-ons--->Plugins--->Oberon com adapter Tools--->Add-ons--->Extensions--->Oberon GamesBar

I chose to download and install a trial-version of a game from Pogo.com and chose "Full Installation" (as opposed to Customized). When I installed it, it auto-installed a troublesome toolbar to my Firefox browser (Mozilla Firefox ver. 4.0.1) and highjacked my home page (and continued to highjack my home page preferences whenever I changed them back).

Someone should "hijack" their home page sometime so they can see how they like it. =;-p

Thanks very, very much for your help.

I have this problem for few months now, running W7, IE works just fine... I thought that is a memory problem (running VS 2010) considering FireFox memory insatiable problem. Sometimes opens, sometime doesn't it is random. I tried running it in Safe Mode and hit "Continue..." same problem, it opens for few seconds then minimze it to the task bar. I tried again "safe Mode" and choose "reset all user preferences to FireFox defaults". Closed down and restarted - surprise, surprise worked for me. I didn't wnat to get rid of all bookmarks that's why I chose user preferences, do have a bunch of bookmarks. So, don't know what to say, just luck or maybe a valid "fix" for me.
