Firefox hangs when I try to load YouTube videos, especially the ones embedded in a blog/facebook. After few minutes of hanging, the browser color fades and shows the massage "not responding" on the bar at the top of the window (Where firefox icon is showing). If I press "Ctrl+Alt+Del", Windows freeze (mouse and keyboard won't work as well) and I can't do anything but turning the system off the hard way. When I open the task manager from the start menu and try to end the process (firefox), the regular warning shows up and nothing happens after I press "OK" button. If I try to restart Windows while Firefox is not responding, Windows will ask me to choose one of following 2 options: “Restart Anyways” or “Cancel to go back to quit Firefox”, but it freezes and again I can't do anything but turning the system off the hard way.

I re-installed the flash plug-in and it seems to work after I do so, but it will hang again after a while (few days, sometimes few hours after). I disabled all the plug-in and turning them on one by one to see if they are causing the problem, but YouTube seem to work when I am trying to check. However, It will hang again after I browse for a while.

This is really frustrating because I have to force quit the whole system everytime this happens. Please give me an advice if there is a solution.

firefox doesn't crash, but I haven't been able to view Youtube videos at all; either on their site or embedded. I've uninstalled flash player and reinstalled it; just upgraded firefox; upgraded all my plugins, etc. OS: Windows XP SP3. Flashplayer works for all other video sites, just not Youtube.

Same deal over here. I have tried everything I can think of, complete uninstall of every FF file & folder as well as Flash. Nothing seems to work. I've been forced to make Chrome my default browser, would much rather use FF. If anybody has any advice, please share.

The same problem here; windows 7, firefox 3.6.8. Downgrading firefox to 3.5.11 helped, using flash 9, complete reinstallation did n ot.

I found a solution on some forum I randomly found: if the video is embedded (on facebook, etc), open it up on Youtube. In the address bar, type the following:

&fmt=18

to the end of the url - do not skip a space. This will trick Youtube into playing the video in HD format. I've tried it about five times already and so far it works like a charm. Seems like a lame fix, but it works.

Yep, Same here!! Firefox V3.6.8, doesn't work well with windows 7 and Youtube. It hangs when i tried to play a video which i could have done easily with Windows XP.

Even my pentinum 4, 2GHz CPU computer with 512MB ram can watch youtube better than my dual-core 4GB ram notebook!

Some software incompatibilities there, could be the flash driver V10.1 or Firefox upgrade.

Me too, except my computer freezes immediately, and there's nothing I can do except shut it down the hard way. I'm running Win 7, 64-bit.
