https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?cache=no Did you update Firefox to the latest version?

Hmm, those settings are stored in different files in your Firefox profile folder, so it's not just that a single file is failing or being removed:

  • prefs.js: startup/home page(s), toolbar button placement
  • handlers.json: choice between internal PDF viewer vs. system-level default application

What about history or ability to restore a previous session? Is that erased unexpectedly?

Does the data loss appear to be related to system restarts, or do you do a shutdown/restart of Windows more often, without any data loss, or less often, such that data loss occurs between restarts?

I mention Windows restarts because some external utility/privacy software may "clean" your browser data at startup. Programs such as CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare have that behavior (and options to exclude Firefox, I believe).
