As stated during the password reset process, resetting your Firefox Account password will remove any data that's stored on Firefox Sync. That's because the data on Firefox Sync is encrypted using your account password. When you change the password, your account password no longer matches what was used to encrypt the data, so the data can't be unlocked.

The only way to make sure that the data is not deleted when you reset your account password is to reset your password with the Recovery Key that can be found in the Firefox Account settings.

The Firefox Sync service isn't intended to be a data backup service, so it doesn't always work when used that way.

If you still have the old laptop, you should be able to sign back into your Firefox Account on that laptop and then sync the data again.

Otherwise, you're unfortunately out of luck.
