With the latest update, the browser will not start. I had to load an older version to gain access. Your solution leads to an option that isn't displayed.

The solution that was offered, "firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser. " isn't an option on this version. Since the other version wouldn't start, how/why would I load it, only to be stuck from making the fix? RELEASE A NEW VERSION THAT FIXES THIS!!! We aren't allowed to load the problem version on our machines at work, so it's impacting our daily process. Until a new (corrected) version is available, we are stuck with an older version OR use Chrome or IE.

Any version from 57.0 forward, will not even start on my laptop. I can't "go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.", since the program never opens. I continue to use 56.0.2 and disappoint myself each time a new version comes out and I attempt to upgrade. The upgrade won't start, so I reinstall 56.0.2. C'mon Firefox, you're better than that!

Hi smartel47, there have been some threads on Firefox not starting, and there are a number of possible causes. These include:

  • incompatible security software freezes Firefox; usually you need to wait for the software to update to resolve this issue
    • typically firefox.exe is still listed in the Task Manager, Processes tab, in this scenario
    • possibly a Websense product was the latest, but it's hard to remember
  • incompatible device drivers cause a silent crash
    • typically firefox.exe is no longer visible in the Task Manager, Processes tab, in this scenario
    • I'll paste example threads related to 64-bit Firefox 56.0.1 and later, but since you can run 64-bit Firefox 56.0.2, this may not be the issue

Compatibility Issue for 64-bit Windows Users with 64-bit Firefox

Before Firefox 56.0.1, users of 64-bit Windows generally were using the traditional 32-bit version of Firefox. However, newer versions may switch you to the 64-bit version.

We received a number of puzzling reports of Firefox either not starting or not loading any pages after this migration.

One user discovered that Windows was silently killing Firefox at startup and recording it in the Windows event logs (you can view event logs using the Event Viewer). Based on one of the reports in the log, we were able to trace that to an out-of-date Logitech camera driver, of all things.

By now at least six other users reported that uninstalling or updating the Logitech camera software resolved their problem as well.

Do you want some assistance in looking at event logs, or do you have such a webcam?
