I just upgraded to FF 43.0.3 from a much older version and have a minor problem.

I want to keep the dropdown bookmark menu contained within the browser window itself and not allow it to go to the left as shown in the attached picture. I use a 3 monitor setup with the browser on the middle monitor, fit to size to fill the whole monitor. Currently the dropdown opens and is split (location indicated with red vertical line) where my left and center monitor meet.

When the browser window is moved to the left monitor, the bookmark dropdown is forced right so as to be viewable.

How can I force the dropdown to always be contained within the browser window, or forced right? There has to be a setting somewhere in about:config, I just don't know what it is called.

Thanks in advance!

Spectacular! Thank you very much.

I changed the numbers a bit as you suggested to tweak it in just right!

  1. BMB_bookmarksPopup {margin-right:-300px!important;}
  2. BMB_bookmarksPopup .panel-arrow {margin-right:300px!important;}

You can try to force this with code in userChrome.css. Note that Firefox may still try to open a folder to the left in some cases if the text label is too long. You will probably have to adjust the values to see what works for you.

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#BMB_bookmarksPopup {margin-right:-415px!important;}
#BMB_bookmarksPopup .panel-arrow {margin-right:405px!important;}

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
  • Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
  • Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window
  • Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
  • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.
    Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
