Due to a glitch with a reset iPhone, I lost almost all the emails in a folder named "Deleted Items". I'm using an IMAP server and that bad iPhone deleted all my emails from 4/1/15 - 7/15/15. I gave it a good spanking and it's behaving now but I need to restore the "Deleted Items' from a profile backup I made on 7/2/15. Attached is a screen shot of most of my IMAP folders in the backup profile. Note that "Deleted Items" is a subfolder of my INBOX. Also note that there are two "Deleted Items" files: Deleted Items.sbd (which is empty) and Deleted Items.mozmsgs (this one contains almost 9,000 items in it and I think are the actual messages). Can I just copy these two folders to my current profile folder? If not, how do I restore these messages?

Thanks for your help.

The 'Deleted Items.mozmsgs' folder should contain *.wdseml files These were created to integrate Thunderbird with Windows Search. These folders and files are created in a manner that allows Windows to index them.

Try this: click on the 'Deleted Items.mozmsgs' folder to open. Copy the *.wdseml files from the 'Deleted Items.mozmsgs' folder in your profile to a new folder on desktop. Change the file extension from .wdseml to .eml and then used Import/Export Tools Add-On to import the missing messages back into Thunderbird.

Importexporttool addon:

How to install addon: download addon .xpi file to desktop or downloads folder.

In Thunderbird Tools > Add-ons OR Menu icon > Add-ons click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file' locate the .xpi file you downloaded and click on 'Open' You will need to restart Thunderbird.

Right click on 'Deleted Items' folder or another folder to import into maybe a folder in 'Local Folders', choose 'ImportExporttools' > 'Import Messages' Locate the folder with all those .eml files select files and click on 'Open' This should import the emails.

Thanks. That's very clear. I just have one question. As far as I can see, The 'Deleted Items.mozmsgs' folder does not contain *.wdseml files. I have attached a screen shot of that folder and it shows no file extension.

Can I just add one to these files?

Thanks for your help.

I think your computer might have the 'hide file extensions' option. Please follow the info at the link below to make the file extensions appear. Then do the change of extension from .wdseml to .eml http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7
