I archived messages and they showed in the 2014 archive folder and were visible for 2 days. 3 days later the folder is visible but no messages show. What happened? Are they lost forever?

Hi edhorsman, My apologies, but this question is under the Firefox product, is this a question for Thunderbird?

ou can check this folder to make sure that the email inbox is still there: [Profiles TB](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb) and [Profile folder - Thunderbird](http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird).

However the best reference for lost mail with a list of exhaustive troubleshooting steps are: [Disappearing Mail](http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail)

Unfortunately since you have lost the emails and folders and contacts, if all of that information was stored locally, there is no way to recover this. But, if the server does store contacts and the folders were created on the webmail you may be in luck.

You will need to set up the email account to create a local profile again. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

You will need to set up the email account to create a local profile again. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

In order to do this please start with these steps: [Automatic Account Setup](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration) [Manual Account Setup](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration)

If you use IMAP mail service [IMAP Synchronization Instructions](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#thunderbird:mac:tb24)

If you use POP [Changing IMAP to POP instructions](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changing-imap-pop)

After setup you can check out setting up the local account configurations (Thunderbird Account Configurations)https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-accounts?esab=...

If you still have the old profile from before the computer crashed, in the future, this is where all this information is stored. Backing it up is highly recommended. (Thunderbird Profiles)https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
