I still can't get the AOL sign in to remember the Email address and the password and I need to type both in each time I log in inspite of checking the remember. Any help appreciated.

When you say you are checking remember, are you checking Firefox's prompt to save your password in the browser, or the site's checkbox, which usually sets a cookie to keep you logged in?

I checked " remember me' when I sign in on AOL. I have an iMac. Where is the prompt box on the browser? Can you walk me through this? Thank you.

Actually, I do not let Firefox save passwords for me, but if you do, normally Firefox's message would open from the address bar as shown in the first article linked in the first reply.

The box you are checking should prompt AOL to save a cookie in Firefox that keeps you logged in for an extended period. It is possible that the cookie is not being saved between session. There are several potential reasons for that:

  • You are visiting AOL in a private browsing window (cookies only last for the current session)
  • You have Firefox set to save cookies only for the current session instead of as long as the website wants
  • You have Firefox set to clear cookies when you shut down Firefox
  • An add-on is clearing cookies
  • External software is clearing cookies

For the second and third, you can check your settings here:

(Mac) Firefox menu > Preferences > Privacy

With the drop-down set to Firefox will: Use custom settings for history, check that you keep cookies "until they expire" and that "Clear history when Firefox exits" either is not checked, or cookies are not included in the data that Firefox clears (check the adjacent Settings button to check).

Note that websites may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving form data like name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

Also check the password exceptions.
