Old versions of FireFox had better functionality: to add bookmark you had to click once on bookmark icon and last used folders were shown. Now "Unsorted bookmarks" is shown, with no option to delete it. This impairs FF usability, greatly for a people who do intense research and reading.

I'm not using Unsorted bookmarks at all, neither Bookmarks Toolbar. Is it possible to restore basic functionality of FF and delete these unwanted enforced options?

Thank you.

Unsorted Bookmarks has been in Firefox since the 3.0 version, which was released on 06-17-2008. It's been gone for over 5 years now. The other "smart" folders can be deleted, but the Unsorted folder can't be deleted.

I have seen nothing in the last 5 years which allows the former functionality to be restored to the Places bookmarks / history system. I suppose that folder can be 'hidden' thru userChrome.css coding, but that won't override 'Places' from trying to use that folder as its' first choice for a new bookmark. And unless you are very careful, you may end up with a ton of bookmarks in the hidden folder.

Thank you for explanations, appreciate your help.

But: until maybe 3 months ago, when making bookmark, it was enough to click once, and the last used folders were shown, not Unsorted bookmarks. Maybe it was something new in Windows7 update that influenced it, I can't see another possible reason.

I honestly tried all other major browsers, still even with reduced functionality FF is better than others, but after last update it become unusable, had to switch to another FF-based browser, all the same, requires double click and shows Unsorted bookmarks. I will not dig so deep in fragile settings, no time and too much risk, will keep an eye on other browsers and use FF mostly for transactions.

Thank you again.

A friend had this problem recently . Instead of downloading another add-on as suggested, follow these steps: After right clicking to bookmark the web site, click "bookmarks". When the small window opens that states "edit this bookmark" make certain that the folder listed is BOOKMARK MENU. Click Done , and new bookmark will now be listed under the normal Bookmarks. It will appear at the end of your listed bookmarks.

Bookmarks created by clicking the tar on the location bar are created in the Unsorted folder.
You can edit the location if you press the star a second time, but current Firefox versions don't allow to move he bookmark to the last used folder easily.
Bookmarks created via Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page (Ctrl+D) are created in the Bookmarks Menu folder.

The "Add Bookmark Here 2" extension should allow to set a default folder where to save the bookmarks.
