Slow scrolling of bookmarks - all extensions disabled -
I am running 18.0.1 on Debian Sid - noticed today (haven't used it for a while) that the scrolling of bookmarks in the drop-down list is painfully slow...the list scrolls one at a time...I have disabled ALL extensions. There is no video acceleration involved as my on-board video (Intel 856) is pathetic.
Any suggestions

Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.). Then perform these steps:
- Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
- In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
- In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
- Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Graphics acceleration has been disabled in Firefox on this machine forever. There are no updates for my (ancient) video. All extensions are already disabled. Please don't post canned responses. I have already done everything you suggested and more. The one thing I haven't done yet is....go back to Chrome :)
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

So I reset Firefox and lost all my customizations......and I still have slow-scrolling of bookmarks.
please either try to update your graphics driver or if this does not improve the matter you can disable smooth scrolling in firefox/Edit > Preferences > advanced > general.

Can't update driver...as there is no update for it. Smooth scrolling has been disabled since day one. It can't be the driver anyway since Chrome scrolls a much bigger list 10 times as fast. the ONLY reason I started using FF again was the ability to edit bookmarks without going into the bookmarks manager. In Chrome when you delete a bookmark from a list on the toolbar, the list disappears and has to be re-loaded. That is very annoying but it's beginning to look like I'll have to put up with it.
Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Now in safe mode. No change. Thanks for your help...but I have spent enough time on this now.
