while im on line i can not use the symbols above the numbers such as the symbol for "at" it will either be the last thing i typed or blank. they work while working in word or something like that.
my computer was originally windows vista and i had the up grade kit. every thing was fine for a few years until it crashed and i had to re install it all. so now the symbols dont work and i had to type it in word and copy and paste it into the e-mail section of this website. actually the numbers dont work up there either. the number pad works, the =+-_ ~`but nothing else in that row. also i tried another web browser and it's the same thing.

Sounds that your keyboard has a hardware problem if it happens with all programs.
You can try a different keyboard to see if that works.
