add-on iitiated, now have no search engine capability. Google-Lite add-on cannot even find google. How to remove?
Someone eliminated the Google search default from my PC. New search engine was lousy, couldnot find a way to get the old one back. I searched Firefox and found this add-on section with a product called Google-Lite. I accepted that add-on, and now have no search capability at all. Any search comes back with zero results. I want to remove this feature, cannot find on Firefox how to get rid of the add-on.

To uninstall an Extension
- "Ctrl+Shift+A" (same as Tools > Add-ons)
- click on the puzzle pieces at left to bring up Extensions
- Find the "Googlebar-Lite" or whatever extension, and click on "Uninstall"
It sounds like you had previous damage as well, check out the extensions you have against those listed in
Here is an example of repairing damage from the Yahoo Toolbar
Remove the Yahoo Toolbar
- "Ctrl+Shift+A" (Add-ons Manager)
- Select Puzzle piece on left-side for Extensions List
- Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click on "Uninstall" button, and restart Firefox. (if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with customize, and still change all the search defaults as below)
Then to fix the default search engine used at the Location Bar, change the value of [keyword.URL in about:config to one of the values shown in Location Bar search at MozillaZine.
- Google Search (Google search results page)
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
- type in about:config into the location bar (in a new tab)
- if the warning message nonsense comes up the box before dismissing the dialog message
- filter on keyword
- right-click on keyword.URL and choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
- filter on defaulturl
- right-click on browser.search.defaulturl (if it exists) and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
- filter on yahoo.
- right-click on yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src (if it exists) and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice, if adventurous might see if "reset" would remove and see if gone in next session (well not for those keeping the extension).

so you don't have the Yahoo toolbar, though they usually come together, did you try the second part
- Then to fix the default search engine
Thanks for the feedback. Digging further, it does not matter which search engine I utilize - once a search is made, and the results are posted, clicking on any result triggers a redirect to another search engine with nothing but commercial links. I even deleted Firefox. The problem persists when trying to use the search result links. I have to copy and paste the address given within the link description in order to go directly to that site.
Should have asked before but you said everything directs to a url, what is that url?
- Ask.com also redirects searches (referrer) and keyword.URL
uninstall see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions

Kind of a bypass, but I do a lot of my searching from the location bar with a keyword shortcut, depending on what search engine and site I want to search on.
I never to do an external search from the location bar in any other manner.
Forgot to mention it before, nothing related to your problem but you Flash is out of date. Bound to forget something when I have to type in the first responses several times because this site won't remember what I type and it is so easy to hit a back/forward or bring up another page, and lose what I had.
None of this helps. I think this is a Firefox problem which THEY should fix before releasing crap updates. I have been through the config pages for hours trying different codes and resetting and it just makes no difference. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I have only two Extensions, Java console (disabled) & Skype (Disabled) so I can't do anything there. Pissed off but I will persevere with Chrome.
Thanks anyways.
