When I click on a link to open a PDF file or to download a PDF file, a blank browser window opens with an address but nothing happens. The file is not displayed nor does the download window open.

1. The UserAgent being broadcast by Firefox indicates that you are using Firefox 3.5.6, not Firefox 5.0 .
Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter = general.useragent.extra.firefox
Right-click that preference and select Reset
Then restart Firefox

I did not have that specific useragent, however when I filtered for "general.useragent" there were 4 others that were user set. I Reset each of them and restarted Firefox. I was able to download pdf files, but when I tried again the next day, again I can't download.

Today when I check about:config and filter for "general.useragent" there are only 2 listed: . general.useragent.locale . general.useragent.compatMode.firefox

Any other suggestions?
