I can not send emails before having to type in security codes that I can hardly read. How do I get rid of this feature?
I have never had to type in a security code with basic emails before...this is beyond frustrating; I find them really hard to decipher (they're the kind that look as though they're scribbled over) and have had to enter over 10 on some occasions beofre I get it right...how can I get rid of this appearing when I try to compose or reply to an email? (My email provider says it's not them doing it!)

No, this has made more of a mess of it all! Cookies were already enabled, but the security thing still appears, and now I'm getting a pop up all the time asking if I want to allow cookies! Aaargh!
What are the cookie settings?
To see all the History and Cookie settings, select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
See Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track
You may need to create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep cookie from that website, especially for secure websites and if you let cookies expire when Firefox closes.
Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
