I'm using the latest version of Firefox on an updated Fedora Linux installation. I am experiencing for a while now random crashing while watching videos. The playback crashing is random, so I could be watching 5 videos one after another with no crashing and then one video will cause it to crash. The video causing is site agnostic, so it could crash from any site, not just YouTube. I saw in bugzilla something that I thought was related to the crashing (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1779558) but it got resolved and it still keeps happening to me.

It's getting tiresome, please. What do I need to send you to help me fix this problem?

I also recommend you try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and you can compare future issues. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

I'd be happy to do that but for some reason entering about:crashes leads me to a page that says "That address doesn't look right." It only happens with the affected PC. Other PC show crashes normally. EDIT: managed to find the same names inside the folder. After a bit of googling... I came across this for your distro.

Howto install ffmpeg? https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/howto-install-ffmpeg/7502/2

Enabling the RPM Fusion repositories https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/setup_rpmfusion/

I guess I can give it a try to see if it happens there as well.

Already have ffmpeg installed.... Interesting. Yeah, running Firefox from Mozilla will be a good test. I have several laptops running openSUSE and no video playback issues.

I forgot to ask... Are you in X11 or Wayland?

Hey Paul,

Anything out there on the interwebs about what changes if any the different distros make to Firefox?

Looks like using the Flatpak version of Firefox fixes the issue: I have switched to the Flatpak version and played an a few hours worth of videos with not a single crash.

A success! Major thanks to jonzn4SUSE for suggesting to use a different version than the Distro's.
