Since a few days, when I close Firefox after using it, the laptop freeze completely, for a time that could be between 5 seconds and half a minute. Happens very often, at leat 50% of the times that I close the browser. And sometimes, just after the freeze, there's the crashing too, as it's possibile to see on reports like that ones: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/f94b968d-7a9b-4060-9c24-4f2560191030 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/cd8a4cbd-a7a6-4468-a1a5-3c6f00191029 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/217c2d33-2807-48c8-976d-5be0d0191027 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/30e5578c-86f6-44cd-a3b3-9802a0191027

For what I can understand, every crash report have different issues on it (I tried to make a research with them, but the different causes didn't help) In the reports are also visible a lot of details needed, like version, operating system, and so on.

have you checked that your virus guard is working properly??

try reinstalling firefox and make sure to delete and clear all the cache and data .

if the problem still exists make a scan via your virus guard and uninstall every add on's you added. also check if laptop gonna freeze while you using other apps as well..

if it is best thing to do is make a hardcore virus scan or else make a fresh windows

Antivirus is working great, other browsers don't have the same problem. This issue only happens in the moment Firefox is closed.

That was a new installation of firefox actually, so there was no cache and data. Then, I've copied my old profile in the new installation, and when I saw the problem, I thought that was caused by that. So, I've created a new profile, and then transferred the data using that article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

but the problem still stand.

Not an expert - they will let anyone contribute here, but I am just trying to help.

It looks like from my layman understanding that there is an issue when Firefox calls your user directory. Somehow resulting into a stack overflow (which is used by a lot of viruses and malware). I would try a clean install (and try to find a different version than the one you used, possibly from a different machine).

Run a virus scan. (what av do you use)?

Oh - turn off remote desktop man - I can see it on in your logs. Also if you aren't using IPV6, turn that off too. Hmm... oh yeah - update your videocard - actually you should update a lot of things.

Hope that helps - just some general stuff for you to play with. If you need more detail or help just ask.

Thank you a lot, any help is appreciated. I know that the laptop is outdated, because it's my old laptop that I'm using again after the motherboard crashed on the new one. For that reason I had to make a new firefox installation and then copy my old profile.

The antivirus is the Microsoft Security Essential that goes with Windows. Malwarebytes check returned free of problems.

I will start with turning off a couple of things you've said, like remote desktop and IPV6, and see if there's any difference.

Thanks for the reply, but that article is for Firefox freezing, while my problem is that when I close firefox, the full laptop freeze and you can't do nothing for a few seconds, and sometimes more. It's not firefox freezing while being used, only on shutdown. Also, that article was for W10, so I'm not going to change those options for now.

Link not working here.

The problem unfortunately is still there even after following a few suggestion of RandomAG, and others.

So, running out of advices, I've followed trying small changes here and there, and I think that I finally have identified the possible cause: - Disabled the option "Use hardware acceleration when available" - Set the content process to 4 instead of 8.

Since then, Firefox hasn't crashed on closing in the last few days. Don't know if it was both creating a problem, I assume that only the accelaration was. I could try it if required. Still, I'm not sure if that means that it's a memory issue, or a video card one, or whatever else.. maybe people more expert than me would know.

That obviously open another kind of problem, as that hardware acceleration option is necessary to the correct use of quite a few sites. If that's a memory thing, could be solved with some settings on the about:config page, while activating accelaration again?

Thanks in advance.

Still with no solution to the bug, firefox freeze and sometimes crashes when using "hardware acceleration", and if I disable that, I couldn't watch/use at all of the contents that requires that option activated.

Has someone created a profile just for streaming/watching videos online? Is there a manual, or a discussion, in which all the parameters to improve the video experience are discussed?

(I thought that I can use one profile for the normal daily use, and another to activate in a new window just when needed.. so maybe there're already examples on how to maximize the video part)
