When I save a draft message, Thunderbird instead emails me a copy

I was writing a draft message today, and when I hit Save (command-S on my Mac), it emailed the draft as it was to me at my own email address. Checking Sent folder revealed no sent message (so at least it appears I didn't send the unfinished message to its intended recipient). But the Drafts folder *also* had no copy of the message, so it turns out it didn't even save it. I quit and reopened, same issues.

I'm using Thunderbird 60.8.0 on an iMac running MacOS 10.12.6.

There have been cases where a Mac keyboard shortcut is mixed up with another TB command, e.g. command-Return (Send now) is read as Edit Message as New (command-E). If you use the File/Save As/Draft menu, does the same thing happen?

Good question. More info as a result:

- Saving a draft of a NEW message works correctly, whether using keyboard shortcut, button on compose message window, or menu item

- But, saving a draft of a REPLY or FORWARD results in the failure previously indicated, no matter whether I use keyboard shortcut, button on compose message window, or menu item

- Watching the Thunderbird window, it seems that the message first appears in the Drafts folder, then disappears from the Drafts folder, then appears in the Inbox as an incoming unread message.

- This makes me wonder if one of my email filter scripts is being overly zealous and filtering the contents of the Drafts folder? I'll have to investigate further.

Update:

Definitely one of my filters. I turned on the filter log and did a fresh reply/save. It's a filter that's designed as a "saving throw" in case my junk filter accidentally grabs something work-related. (It takes any email that contains a specific project-name keyword and marks it NOT junk.)

So that solves that part of it; however, I didn't realize that messages being saved to the Drafts folder were subjected to ANY filtering/Junk mail screening. Does that always happen? If so, is there a way to bypass it?

I'm not aware that junk screening scans the Drafts folder, but you might want to use the FolderFlags add-on to ensure it doesn't. There are versions for TB 60 and 68.
