I need to change the aspect of Firefox on my screen from vertical (for phone) to horizontal (for a computer).
It seems like phones are overtaking the 'net and everything is tailored for them. I'm using a laptop with a 17" screen and half of my screen's height is taken up by the title bars of the browser and webpage. The horizontal menus of Firefox and the website are broken up into 3 or 4 lines across and are very large. The content that I want to see is squeezed into about 2 inches of screen. I have the zoom at 100% and I don't see well enough to decrease the size of the various items. I have been all thru the options and customizations looking for a computer/phone screen toggle - surely if apps and programs are being designed to work best with a tall skinny screen instead of a short wide screen there should be a toggle, right?

No doubt about it - I feel really stupid! My problem was that I had enabled the font enlargement to 125% in Win10 and it was making the menu bars of the various web pages very wide indeed, so they took up 2 or even 3 lines instead of only one. I have removed the enlargement, resulting in type on the screen that's too small for me to see, so I don't think I've solved anything.
Whatever, it is not a Firefox issue at all - just part of getting older and blinder. The longer I use Win10 the less I like it. Many thumbs down.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?
While you are in safe mode;
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

The difference between 100% and 125% should be proportional and not so dramatic. Can you enlarge the content on pages using zoom? I typically use the keyboard:
- Ctrl+ to enlarge
- Ctrl- to reduce
Or there are buttons on the application menu (fourth row down on mine).
Again, that should be proportional and not cause a giant swing all at once.
