I am running Thunderbird 38.2.0 which for some have fixed the problem of deleted messages not appearing in the trash folder. I continue to have the problem. The server settings specify Gmail's IMAP server, and the "When I delete a message" is set to move it to the trash folder.

The attached image shows most of the account's folder tree structure... it lacks additional local folders.

Any new ideas on how to resolve the problem would be appreciated.

Deleted messages should go to [Gmail]/Trash. This will remove labels and store in AllMail until Trash is emptied.

Thank you for your prompt response, but reviewing the settings was of no help. After your comment regarding gmail's trash folder, I again took note that it didn't exist, I piddled around and ended up having to subscribe to gmail's trash folder. Once done, deleted messages were moved to its folder. I'd switch the account from using IMAP to POP, but fear the disruption that it might cause with lost email. This being my wife's account I am extra cautious in making any changes. (You married folks may already know this to be true.)

Thanks again...
