Can't open WAV or XLS files in Firefox

When I click on a WAV file or try to open an Excel attachment, I only get the download window. I went to settings and tried to change the default program to open them, but I don't have WAV or Excel in my list and when I try to search for it, nothing comes up. What am I doing wrong? It was all fine before the update from Tuesday, 3/8/22. After that update I had to go in and change all the programs back to the ones I had set up for pdfs, word docs, mail, jpegs, etc, so it clearly reset everything back to Firefox defaults, but why are those file types missing from my list and not coming up in the search window so that I can assign a program to open them?

Chosen solution

Others have experienced applications disappearing from the list. You could try the procedure explained in this link. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file#w_changing-download-actions

The second section of the link, using the downloads, worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
