Hello, Mozilla Firefox is my default browser and my favorite one

However, I have an issue when surfing on Youtube because at least one of the keyboard shortcuts cannot be used with Mozilla Firefox, while it works ok with both Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge

Precisely, while on the French keyboard striking the "?" (question mark) key allows to reduce the speed of the video, the opposite shortcut "." (dot) does not works when it should increase the speed

Is there any technical conflict preventing for this dot shortcut to work, or was this forgotten in a way during the development phase?

In any case could it be possible to implement this in a next update?

Many thanks

Chosen solution

In the meantime, I installed the English keybord option on my desktop, and when I switch on it (Shift+Alt+<no other key>) it works fine with the youtube shortcuts, as a result, I presume the issue is rather located in the keyboard driver than in Firefox, so the solution would be at Microsoft's

Hi Loïc, In Youtube, I click in the left margin next to the video and press Shift + ? This brings up the Keyboard Shortcuts Menu for Youtube.

Keyboard Shortcuts for Firefox are here: Keyboard shortcuts

Suggestions can be made at: Menu -> Help -> Submit Feedback... or here.

Sorry, but this does not answer the question.

May I kindly ask you to read again my message?

The question is that Firefox does not behave like other browsers and striking Shift+<Dot> does nothing while it should increase the reading speed

I don't see any speed controls in Firefox Media Shortcuts: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly#w_media-shortcuts

Maybe it has something to do with the French keyboard layout and Youtube. You might get a better answer here: https://support.mozilla.org/fr/

Robert,

thanks you for your commitment,

however, as already explained, if you please read carefully my initial message, this does not relate to a Firefox feature, but a Youtube feature via Firefox.

During the display of a Youtube feature through Internet Explorer of Chrome, you can use the built-in shortcuts (<Maj>+ and <Ma>+ <.>on a French keybord) to slow down or accelerate the movie,

but if you use Firefox,' only the <Maj>+ works to slow down the movie, and the Ma>+ <.> has no effect which is a pity because most of the time we want to same time

The question is why does Firefox behave differently from other browser and does not honor these very useful shortcut?

Does it seem clearer now?

I checked both the increase and decrease speed controls at Youtube and they both work fine with my keyboard. (On a US keyboard it's Shift +. (dot) and Shift + , (comma) respectively)

If those same controls work in IE and Chrome then, I doubt that it's your keyboard. I honestly can't think of why the one control isn't working for you. Check to see if any other controls are failing.

According to the YouTube shortcuts, it's the arrow keys which control speed (>) (<). (Shift +. (dot) and Shift + , (comma) on a US keyboard) Do IE and Chrome have speed controls which use ? and .  ?

Hello Loïc,

I realize that this is not an answer to your question, but instead
of using Shift + , (comma), would you try Shift + ; (semicolon) ?

This is why I'm asking :

https://www.mrfdev.com/youtube-keyboard-shortcuts

(you'll have to scroll down some)

Should that keyboard shortcut work with Firefox, then let's just
say that not every browser works the same way .....

^: I think that page is about keyboard shortcuts supported by an extension.

@ Loïc :

Cor-el is right - I hadn't noticed it earlier, but that page is written by
the developer of this extension :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/enhancer-for-youtube/

My bad - so, please, ignore my previous post.
