All I want to do is make minor changes to an already downloaded theme, and then have it as another theme in my add-on themes collection. I tried this using the new Firefox color extension, but the there is no way I can see to actually make a newly created theme a part of the themes in add-ons. Furthermore, the save and export functions are really strange - save doesn't work , and export is not install able. Why is this simple thing so difficult?

If you make changes to the lightweighttheme-header or lightweighttheme-footer file in the profile folder then you need to remove the files in the lwtheme because that folder stores the image files that are actually used. The image files in this folder are resized to the current screen dimensions.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:preferences page.
