Screen view is too light

Regardless of the website being viewed, when viewed in Firefox, the screen is so light, I can't even see boxes for field forms which need filling in. Contrast works ok in IE11 and Edge but not Firefox. How can I increase either contrast or make the theme darker?

Hello,

A theme is an add-on that changes the visual appearance of Firefox. When several themes are installed, you can switch to another theme as follows:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Switch to the Appearance tab. You should find your previously used personas in the list.
  3. Find the one you want to use and click the Enable button.

To uninstall the other ones, you can click the Remove button on them and they'll be uninstalled instantly.

For more information about Firefox themes, see the article Use themes to change the look of Firefox.

Could you try setting Firefox to strictly follow page colors and see whether that makes any difference. On the Preferences page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type color and Firefox should filter the page down so you can easily find the "Colors" button. Go ahead and click that.

Try changing this setting:

"Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above"

Below that, it usually says

"Only with High Contrast themes"

Click that and change the setting to

"Never"

then click OK to finish the change.

Does that help at all?

Here's a screenshot of that part of the Colors dialog:

There are quite a few add-ons for recoloring websites, especially changing them from dark-on-light to light-on-dark, but that might be more than you're looking for. I think it might be worth a test to see whether there are still problems with form controls that might have a different cause. I've seen users mention this one, for example:
