First, I used to say "No new messages", Now it doesn't say that. It doesn't indicate anything. How do I get it back to indicating to me that I have "No New Messages" if I don't.

Also how do I get it to indicate how many messages I have on the server? It used to do that. Even tho I only had a total of, say 30 in all my mail boxes, it would say I have 3500 (or whatever) total messages & would like to know how to both access & delete some of these many messages.

Have you lost the Status Bar at the bottom?

Go to View|Toolbars and tick the checkboxes.
