Hello,

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Note that your System Details List did show a user agent override for Firefox/4.0.1

  • general.useragent.override:

I'm beginning to think this this latest release is a bit buggy. I had awful problems after the recent upgrade to v24.0 crashing, freezing, acting weird which I only corrected after reloading disabling all addons and data. I really thought that had sorted things out but now I'm getting sites including Firefox itself, telling me to upgrade my browser. I can't unless I jump into a time machine to the future and as one hasn't been invented yet will have to go through the above. I suppose I will also have to download and addon all my addons again, what a pain.

I'd thought this problem was solved but no, unfortunately certain sites are still telling me to upgrade my browser. Having to keep switching to Internet Explorer to view sites I must get into. Think I might, as much as it grieves me after all these years, make a permanent switch to IE or whatever else is out there. Shame but I can't put up with this.

Can you attach a screenshot and a possible link to such a web page if it doesn't require authorization (log in)?

No I've spent too much time on this already. I've tried all I know plus a few suggestions from other users with no success. Everything was okay up until this latest update but now I've discovered it also no longer displays some elements of a web page as well. So after 10 maybe 15 years or more I'm afraid its goodbye. I'm not saying I won't come back because I might, but only after I'm sure the programmers create a stable version again.
