I just transferred from IE and imported all my bookmarks, but don't see how to access my bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar.

I have read getting started and the faqs, but all I have is "latest headlines, most visited, customize links, free hotmail, getting started, windows, windows marketplace, windows media" on my toolbar. If I add a folder called my bookmarks, it is (of course) empty! Yet my favorites were imported. Thanks for any help.

If you want to see bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar then you need to move or copy those bookmarks to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.

You can do that in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) or in the Bookmarks sidebar.
