Firefox for iOS will not save pdfs

Firefox for iPads cannot save pages to a pdf. This makes it useless for downloading things like statements and manuals. Firefox has historically had problems handling pdfs. If you save it to files, the result is a corrupted pdf that will not open. If you click print, nothing happens. If you send it by mail, that sometimes works; however, that defeats the purpose of trying to keep the document like a statement private. I wanted to like Firefox for iPads, but this is a deal breaker for me.🥴😡

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or developers. If you want to leave feedback for developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Share ideas and feedback…. Alternatively, you can use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

You can also file a bug report or feature request. See File a bug report or feature request for Mozilla products for details.

Hi Reg,

I can actually manage to save a page as pdf from Firefox on iOS by following these steps:

  1. Click on the hamburger menu and choose Share
  2. Choose Print which will take you to the print prompt
  3. Click on the Share icon at the top that will take you to Sharing prompt
  4. Choose the Save to Files

Let me know if you run into problem to follow those steps.

Hi Kiki,

I had the same problem with saving the PDF-Files. Your workaround helped me to download and save the file. But this is not an obvious solution for the average user, because there is the „Save to files“ option already at the first „Share“ menu.

I don't think I see the "Save to files" option after I tap on the Share menu. Which iOS version are you using?

In later versions of iOS (>17 or so) there’s a setting in Settings > Firefox > Local Network. If you’re trying to download from your own device (like statements, email attachments or in my case PDFs on my own local server) this must be turned on, or your download gets cancelled immediately. Enabling this also puts other apps that can receive files into the Share list, which simplifies the process further still. If you’re downloading from outside your local network this can be turned off. This fixed it for me but it’s just one more thing to check.
