My Thunderbird software recently updated to 78.5.1 I am running a Windows machine with 8.1 installed

Until the update I used Thunderbirds search function every time I opened my email. Suddenly the search is very slow. Not only is it slow but the information it displays is incomplete. This problem seems to have begun right after Thunderbird updated. But I know that could be a coincidence. I have uploaded a screenshot. Note in the bottom left corner the word "searching" That used to be there for 10 or 20 seconds at the most. But now it stays indefinitely. And as you can see, the information for some of the found emails is incomplete.

Any help will be appreciated.

Your picture actually shows Classic Search, not Global Search. If this is an IMAP account and you keep messages for offline access, i.e. you download message bodies instead of just headers, uncheck 'run search on server' as this can be a significant factor. Also, uncheck 'Search subfolders' if you're just searching the root folder, e.g. Inbox, and select that folder in 'Search for messages in'.

Thank you very much. I unchecked the "run search on server" box and that solved the problem. I am still curious why I did not seem to have this problem previously, even though I have had that box checked for quite a while.
