Hi there...hoping you can help me. I have somehow deleted all my history on the new phone. I thought I was deleted the cache only (in private data list) but something went wrong. I then went to my old phone and the history is still all there including the recent history. I tried to sync the history from the old phone to my new phone (again) but can't seem to get it to transfer over. I have an account and it appears I'm still signed in. When I bought the new phone, I transferred all (bookmarks, history, etc.) to the new phone. ALSO, my downloads were deleted, as well. Please help me transfer the history and the downloads. My bookmarks were not affected. Can you only transfer once? I need help.

Thank you in advance for your assistance, Diana B.

Hi

I should be able to help you with this.

I am assuming that everything is still on the old phone, you just need it copied to the new device.

On the new phone, open the Android "Settings" app (typically a cogwheel icon), look for "Applications" and find "Firefox". Under "Storage", select "Clear Data". This will remove all information from the new phones copy of Firefox for Android and will stop Firefox Sync from making changes to the old phone.

On the new phone, open the menu in Firefox for Android, select "Settings" and "Firefox Account" at the top of the list. Choose all the information types you wish to move across to the new device and tap "Sync now".

Wait a few minutes then go to your new device and sign into the same Firefox Account and (after a short delay while it downloads) all the information will be moved across. It will help if you do is using a strong WiFi signal.

The only data that will not be moved is anything that you have downloaded to the old device. Probably the easiest way to do this is to send them by one or more emails. When you go to attach the files to the emails, you will find your files in the "downloads" folder.

I hope this helps.

Hi Seburo,

Thank you for your suggestion, however it is not syncing, and the history hasn't copied over. I'm already signed in...apparently never signed out since copying the info the first time when I got the new Galaxy 10e phone in April of 2019. Should I go over to the Verizon store? Ugh..I really don't want to. Will they have techs that can assist in Firefox issues? Thank you again.

Hi

If you follow the guide above, you may not need to and it will help you to move your bookmarks and (more importantly) your history to your new device.

Hi Seburo,

This isn't copying my history at all. I tried again today (Feb. 4, 2020) but no luck. I've followed the instructions. When I hit sync...nothing gets copied over. My old phone is showing that one device is syncing...but nothing. Thanks again for assisting me with my question. Will have to run over to the Verizon store at some point. It's just not copying over for some reason.

Thanks, again.

Hi

If you have a large amount of history on your desktop, you may need to leave it a slightly longer while, think five or ten minutes, before expecting it to land on your new device.

I hope this all helps.

Hi Seburo,

No desktop. I happen to like Firefox better than Chrome; plus, when my (old) phone wasn't getting the necessary browser updates, I downloaded Firefox to the phone. When I got the new phone, Firefox was downloaded. Later, after I realized that a few things were not transferred/copied over to the new phone, the associate at Verizon explained how to create an account and sync all info from old to new phone with regards to Firefox. I did that. It worked great. Everything was copied over. Then, the other day, I was having difficulty logging in to ebay (in Firefox). I was searching out factors to help me out with the ebay issue, (changed the cookies to enable but that didn't help anything), and came across Clear Private Data page. It has a list with blue check-marks on the items. You choose cancel or clear data (on the bottom of page). So...I hit the Cache option and it removed the blue check-mark. Then I chose Clear Data. All hell broke loose after that simple action. I thought I was clearing the cache (in Firefox)...only! Also, I can't get the blue check-mark back to stay on the cache option. That's another issue.

So, that's the problem. I am happy to know I can still retrieve my history from the old phone. And, no, there is not that much history. It wouldn't even take 4 or 5 minutes. I should have never messed with the Clear Private Data page. Who knows what else I did. Not very tech savvy over here.

Again, thanks for your suggestions. You obviously know what you're talking about. In this case, it's just not copying over. I hope to get this resolved with Verizon. Someone over there should be able to fix this issue I have.

Thanks again...

^:I assume that this step in the above reply is meant to be done on the old phone.

On the new old phone, open the menu in Firefox for Android, select "Settings" and "Firefox Account" at the top of the list. Choose all the information types you wish to move across to the new device and tap "Sync now".

You can try to change the password of the Sync account on the old device to force a new initial sync to the Sync server. Give it a few hours or a day for the initial sync to complete and then connect the new device using the updated password to this Sync account.
