New computer running Windows 10. New installation of Thunderbird 68.1.2 (64-bit).

There are seven different accounts I have set-up in Thunderbird. All are set to "Check for new messages at startup". None of them do.

It all worked fine on my previous computer running Windows 7. Same accounts.

Help?

Thank you!

'Manually sort folders' is an add-on that, among other things, can set the default startup folder. According to the bugzilla report cited in the link in my first reply, setting Local Folders as the Default account causes the failure to check at startup. This is normally not possible, but it's thought that the Msf add-on might force it, thereby blocking startup checking.

Are any of these (Exchange) accounts managed by the Owl add-on? Do you have Manually sort folders?

No add-ons at all.

I'm not sure what is meant by "have Manually sort folders". Some accounts have folders, but they are the ones either on the server or folders that Thunderbird created.

OK, I changed the default e-mail account, and then changed it back to the one I want it to be. And now Thunderbird is checking for messages when it starts up.

I don't have Owl or Manually or any other add-ons or extensions so I don't know how it might have been possible to have Local Folders selected as the default account. And I don't know if Local Folders was selected. But changing the default account a couple of times has it working.

Thanks for your help!

I have this same problem with 68.2.0 32-bit for Windows 7. My two e-mail accounts (Gmail and sbcglobal/Yahoo) no longer download mail on startup.

There is a noticeable delay as TB first contacts Gmail, but there is no error shown, and no mail received.

Subsequent manual download receives the mail, though if I do the manual Get Messages as soon as startup completes, it still fails. I have to wait at least 10-15 seconds.

I do not have a Local Folders account or the Manually Sort Folders plugin.

Safe mode with no addons made no difference.

I have tried undoing and redoing all relevant settings, but nothing works.

I did not have this problem prior to 68.2.

Thanks!

The bug refers to Local Folders being set as the default account. I don't know how you have no Local Folders, as this account cannot be removed. Even so, it seems you tried setting different accounts as default, with no effect.

I suspect if you created a new profile from Help/Troubleshooting Information, about:profiles, and added an account, it would be checked at startup.
