Avg is ripping me off. they save Firefox is 1 star and could harm me
I am an old beginner. a year ago I signed up for 2 year protection from AVG for $250 Canadian. Recently I had a virus. Spoke with AVG and they said they fixed and they suggested I buy 1 year protection for $125 but I said I have you protection and still i was hacked or whatever you call it. I was annoyed. And today they want $ 44.99 for AVG PC tuneup.
They blame it on - poorly rated Browser.
I will ask a friend to fix it but wanted to let you know that Firefox was bad-mouthed. engelder

Hi, from CA, BC West Coast. That is very expensive for a A/V and a Firewall. You may want to check pricing here : https://store.fileforum.com/ Also do not recommend AVG PC tuneup as I had a a free subscription and tried it. It deleted things that I was not expecting and no way to recover from it. As well Malwarebytes does not recommend it as I had a issue with Malware and made a post in their forum.
It is good practice to run a anti-malware program along side your A/V and Firewall. As A/V programs do not catch everything and anti-malware scanners work differently as well as protect you in real time if purchase such like Malwarebytes. ..... Since you say you have a issue it may be a good time to test that https://www.malwarebytes.com/ a free 2wks full version then it reverts to the free version which does not do real time but scan on demand.
Thanks for letting us know about the rating they are giving out. Not that nice.
Please let us know if need further information or help. Regards

I paid less than $100 for all of the above. I think you got overpriced.
I use free AVG and Firefox is working fine. It has just come up and reported that 'telemetry extension' is poorly rated ( one star)and should be deleted?
I have not done anything yet, and thought you should know. I also suggest you never use the AVG tune up - do your own cleaning and maintenance.
Please disregard the above post. If still using Avast do not trust anything it does today : https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=221993.msg1476917#msg1476917

Many thanks McCoy - this was really helpful. I am on WIN 7 so will keep with the free AVG but I take note of the risks. Cheers

I'd strongly the suggest the following:
- Since you're using Windows 7, use Microsoft Security essentials
- Keep Windows fully up to date
- Download Malwarebytes, and use the free scans once a month
- Please update to Firefox 62, the version you are running is out of date and insecure.
- Contact AVG, cancel your subscription, and ask for a refund. There's no need to pay for anti-virus these days (nor has there been for years)
Yes, thanks for the info. I am using free AVG only, I am not paying for this. I have checked and I am using the latest Firefox.
I will download Malwarebytes - I have used it before but seem to have lost it on the last changeover PC.
