I use thunderbird as my mail software on my laptop. I receive mails from two different POP mail accounts and have separate inbox for both. Since last two days on one of the accounts mails are not seen in INBOX, I had lot of mails in junk folder which I deleted and afterwards it suggested compacting the mail box telling upto 500 mb can be freed up. I clicked yes. From then inbox is not working properly. But when in select inbox for display some processing is on. I tried leaving computer on overnight thinking it is compacting (nearly 18 hours) but same thing happened, then I shut down TB andopened again. Please suggest a method to restore all my mails in inbox. rgds HSN

It sounds like your mail files are corrupted.

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

Note: depending on the corruption this may erase messages from the affected folder which cannot be recovered anymore. In that case you'd need to restore them from a recent backup.

Corruption is often caused by anti-virus software messing with Thunderbird mail files. It is therefore recommended to create an exception for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the real-time scanner won't attempt to scan the profile with your mail.
