About 1 month ago, I was using firefox on my macbook when I got an unresponsive script message, which was not out of the ordinary, except when I went to either stop the script or continue, firefox was completely frozen and has been for this last month. I cannot quit firefox, I still cannot select either stop script or continue and I cannot uninstall firefox. Since it has frozen, I have had to use safari and now that I need to update my Flash, I am unable to do so without quitting firefox which I cannot do. Any suggestions?

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to exclude items like the cookies to see if that helps.

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
