Please help! When I click on the Firefox icon, I only get a black screen. What do I do to restore Firefox?

The black screen doesn't allow me to do anything on it, and it is even difficult to close-it once I open it.

Please tell me step-by-step how to restore Firefox so that the browser is working once again.

Prior to yesterday (10/14/14), it was working fine.

I just want it working again and need step-by-step instructions.

hello radtruj1, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem.

Intel HD 2000/3000: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64bit)

in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode by pressing the shift key while the application is launching & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

Thank you so much philipp!

I was able to open Firefox using safemode. I had to add back on my homepage and was ready to go. Unfortunately, I lost all my bookmarks, and now will slowly add them back on. But that's a small price to pay for not having the Firefox web browser.
