Why can't I drag files from my downloads window to my Desktop to move/copy file there on my Macbook?

On my work computer (Windows), when I download a file, and the Firefox downloads window pops up, I have the option to drag-and-drop the file onto my Desktop for easy reference. When I attempt to do the same on my Macbook (OS 10.7.5), I just get a weird shortcut file ("File Internet Location"). Why can't I drag files from my downloads window to my Desktop to move/copy file there on my Macbook? It's kind of a pain to have to initiate the "Show in Finder" sequence in order to then drag-and-drop the file to the Desktop when I know there is a faster way!

Hi there,

This seems like a bug! I searched Bugzilla but couldn't find a previous bug for this, so I went ahead and filed one: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=846765

Thanks for reporting this, please copy yourself to the bug if you want to stay up to date and get a notification when it's fixed.

Cheers, David

Thanks David, I did just that! I was frustrated that I couldn't find much chatter about this in my searches, so it must be a bug. - Charity
