https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json file.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Is this also the case for the user interface or is only the website content affected ?

On Windows I would assume that you run Firefox in compatibility mode or with reduced screen resolution, but I'm not aware that Mac has a similar feature.

You can try to uninstall Firefox (drag the Firefox application to the Trash) and reinstall Firefox.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
