Hi Piet, when you are using Firefox's built-in PDF viewer, the browser's own Find feature is used. So you can call it up using Ctrl+f, or from the menu:

  • "3-bar" menu > Find in This Page
  • (menu bar) Edit > Find in This Page

Does that work on yours?

Also, regarding Edge, you have some options:

(1) Change your default PDF viewer at the system level to Acrobat, and then set your Firefox options as you prefer:

View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer

(2) If you prefer Edge as your default system level PDF viewer, change how Firefox launches it. This preference switches between a dedicated "app-style" reader and a normal browser tab:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(B) In the search box in the page, type or paste edge and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the browser.pdf.launchDefaultEdgeAsApp preference to switch the value from true (app style) to false (regular Edge tab)

Hi jscher2000,

Answer 1 does not solved my problem. In this way the search is only on the present page of the pdf but I want to search in the whole document.

Answer 2: I will try but it is more difficult and that takes some time. I let you know in a few days.

Thanks for your coöperation: Piet

Find does not work for text that Firefox has not yet rendered. There are some PDFs that are rendered progressively, that you need to scroll through to render. I don't know what causes that, but file size could be a factor. For big PDFs I recommend using Acrobat.
