I was just thinking : When you use the add-on that will sort bookmarks by title (in the Library), and then open the bookmarks in de sidebar (click on the bookmarks star and choose "View Bookmarks Sidebar" you will see all your bookmarks sorted the way you want to. The sidebar appears at the left side of your screen, but when you click on the little black arrow next to "Bookmarks", you can click "Move Sidebar to Right" ......
(faster way to open the Bookmarks Sidebar is to press Ctrl + B on your keyboard)

Hello Cees,
You could give this add-on a try :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/
Or take a look at this one :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sort-bookmarks-webext/
Any good ?
(when you sort them in the Library, they won't stay sorted, as that is only for viewing .... )
I Installed the addon, but ...................... no results. Why did firefox this nonsens !!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by "no results" (?)
after installing the addon and checking the settings, I expected my bookmarks to be ordered by title but turned out not to be. Best regards,
Cees

Could it be that you only tried the first add-on I posted ? I don't see a "sort by title" option there, but I do see that option in the second add-on I posted :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sort-bookmarks-webext/
Does that work ?
Where and how did you sort the bookmarks ?
Did you use the Bookmarks Manager (Library) ?
Note that the Views menu in the Library doesn't sort the bookmarks and is only meant for viewing purposes. You also can't sort bookmarks is a smart folder list like recently bookmarked that shows the result of a query. You should be able to drag bookmarks around in the sidebar and in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:
- click the bookshelf icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list
- click Bookmarks
- click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar
See also "How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?":
I have followed all your advice, but can't get it done, my bookmarks remain unsorted. Have tried all 2 options without success, now think about clearing the entire bookmark page and re-entering it one by one is of course crazy !! Still do not understand that mozilla did not include this option itself.
Best regards,
Cees

Neither extension works ? Weird ....

It won't solve the problem, but it will sure keep you off the street (like we are supposed to now ...... )
Still do not understand that mozilla did not include this option itself.
I couldn't agree with you more ...... :(
I'm sorry I haven't been able to come up with a perfect solution for you - maybe someone else will (fingers crossed ... )
Groetjes en een fijne dag toegewenst (ik ben de enige Nederlandse hier, maar post in het Engels zodat anderen ook je probleem begrijpen en naar een oplossing kunnen zoeken).
Hi,
I understand, at least thanks for your options, still don't understand that mozilla itself doesn't have a solution for this. there may be an update here, I will not be the only one who comes across this! Again, thanks for your help.
Greetings,
Cees
I think that I only just now understand what you want and why those extensions don't work :
You don't want to sort your bookmarks in the Library, but in the bookmarks menu - you specifically mention it in your original post and I totally misconstrued .....
(I have removed everything from the bookmarks menu myself, and when I bookmark a page, it goes directly to the Library - I find that easier)
I don't know if what you want is possible, but would you please take a look at this article (it's in Dutch) :
Hi , Of course I'm used to through I.E. and later to work Edge, where my favorites are arranged at the top right, now to firefox where I think are also at the top right of my bookmarks but now unsorted, hence .................
your last option didn't make me much wiser in the bookmarks menu (show through all bookmarks) the bookmarks were sorted. I hoped that my bookmarks (top right) would also be sorted equally. But not so. Thanks anyway !
Greetings,
Cees
In all honesty : I use Edge for most bookmarks, and only use Firefox bookmarks for pages that don't have a proper URL (like "about" pages) and pages that I don't frequently use. For other pages I use Top Sites on the new tab page.
Maybe in Firefox you could do what I have done : just don't use the bookmarks menu to show your bookmarks; remove almost everything from the menu and when you bookmark a page it will go straight to the Library. You can use the side bar (Ctrl + B) that will show all your bookmarks either on the left or the right. I just click on the icon that looks like a star on a pan; then click on "Other Bookmarks" and click on the bookmark I need.
Hi,
To be honest, I do now too, I use the favorites in edge (inherited from I.E.) if I want to fall back on anything. For the rest, I think Firefox is a beautiful browser. Have now reduced the bookmarks in Firefox to the minimum necessary (approx. 10 pieces) .Have a great time brainstorming with you.
Greetings,
Cees

Same here !
I just did some more searching to see if maybe I could find a way to do what you want, but alas .....
I understand !
Cees
This is what my bookmarks menu looks like (see screenshot) - when I click on "Other Bookmarks", my bookmarks appear on the left side of the menu and I just click on the one I need.
I get it, make it easier, thanks !
