I changed the Get Mail frequency from 10 minutes to 1 minute. After that, Get Mail did not get any new messages. I then changed it to 5 minutes.

I have a webmail account for the same server, twc.com, so I sent a message to myself. It should have been picked up by TB but it wasn't. I waited for several minutes to see if it would be picked up automatically by the time interval. When it wasn't picked up automatically, I did a manual Get Mail and it still wasn't picked up.

Here are my settings:

Usually email provider's limit the time interval for checking for new mail. You'd need to check with your email provider what that interval is. Since the 10 min interval did work before change it back to that value. I cannot imagine why anyone would need a faster interval anyway.

As per your screenshot you already checked the 'immediate server notification' option. That's your best bet for instant email delivery if the server actually supports it. If you depend on that, find another email provider who supports it.

I think what I was perceiving as "get mail not working" was actually get mail working slowly. And that may very well have been the case all along but I just didn't perceive it that way. When I changed to 1 minutes I jumped to the conclusion that it was the 1 minutes that was causing the slowness.

I'll check with twc.com to see if they can explain why it is slow.

Thanks for your help.

I would suggest you disable your anti virus and see just how much things speed up. They can be so slow that the get mail times out. Especially on low spec computers with limited memory.

Sometimes, it's hard to tell whether the problem is the computer, the email server, or the internet provider. I just haven't collected enough data to come to a conclusion. My gut feeling is that the get mail frequency is not the problem. I'll just wait and see if it really becomes serious and then I'll start doing some careful troubleshooting.

Thanks for your help.
