Everytime I open a new tab the cursor ends up in the address bar. I do not want this, I simple want it in the search box like I've had it for years and Google is my home page. I've gone through a few suggestions on how to fix this issue but most are from back in 2015 and earlier, so the solutions are outdated since Firefox has changed a lot since those dates. Again, all I want is for a new tab to open in the search box and not the address bar but if this can't be done then I guess I'll have to change over to another web browser :/

Hi  !

You could give this add-on a try , which is compatible with Firefox 57+ :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Under 'About this Add-on' (when you scroll down some to under 'Features') it says :

set the focus either to the address bar or to the web site (for example Google search field)
