new computer, installed Thunderbird as primary e-mail. Unpredictable, when in Thunderbird the mouse stops working, and a few seconds later the screen goes blank, then the computer reboots itself to my desktop. It does not do this in any other program. I've changed my UPS, I've run several virus checks (Windows, Malwarebytes) and am told by those programs that there is no virus or malware. I must conclude something in Thunderbird is causing this. Anyone else had this problem, and how to fix?

If you are talking about a physical reboot of the machine. I would go with what appear to be the flavour of the day for me. Check you physical disk for errors. A reboot is a kernel event. very very low level and almost certainly hardware related.

The second "options" is On the toolbar > Options > advanced > general and toggle the use hardware acceleration setting. About the only lowish level access Thunderbird has is video hardware acceleration.>

THANKS for such a prompt reply, and in terms I can understand. I frequently get a "program not responding" msg when I delete items on Thunderbird. all linked together? Brand new "refurbished" computer, makes me wonder why it was returned to be refurbished. And the real agony is that it is inconsistent -- sometimes shuts down after 2 minutes, sometimes lets me work for 4 hours. THANKS for the suggestion, it has been applied, now have to wait to see if it solves the problem.
