Hello

You can visit getfirefox.com to download a new version of Firefox. (Or you can download it from here.)

You can find the full version of the current Firefox release (44.0.2) in all languages and all operating systems here:

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

I worked around the security issue and was able to load a new version of Firefox. Unfortunately I have the same problem which led me to delete it in the first place. Firefox hangs right after the first window comes up. The only way to go to another page is to use the search function and then click on the results. Will not go to page when you type in www.xxx.com.

Continues to look for tabs from previous sessions. How do I get rid of this and get back to a clean version of Firefox?????

Are you using custom settings and for instance clearing History when you close ?

That's rather a long shot, but if you are doing; you may be hitting a known bug in Fx44. Try creating an additional new profile and use that temporarily as a test.

  • Does that resolve the issue ?

If it does the simplest work around for now is to not clear history automatically, but to do it manually instead.

A non-working address bar might be caused by an add-on that is no longer compatible with Firefox.

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

In the new profile, you can also turn off unnecessary plugins using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right, switch nonessential plugins -- plugins you don't expect to use for the next 48 hours -- to "Never Activate".

That should give you a clearer picture of whether Firefox can run on your system with a clean profile or whether there is a more fundamental incompatibility.
