I found this article " https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1006626 " and the solution is outlined as setting mailnews.force_charset_override to False. I had this problem for years with Thunderbird. Why is it not by default? If you deal with clients sending email with Chinese Outlook or French Canadian Outlook and receive your mail through Yahoo into Thunderbird then you will get all sorts of fun characters popping up in your received email. The following example are some of the characters that do not look is at all as they are supposed to ---> à ç é However, use the following tweak as found in the above article and problem solved.

did you not read that... the default is false... you changed yours to false...

Why is it not by default?
that is my point, it is the default პასუხის ნახვა სრულად 👍 0

That setting was deprecated in version 3 and the user interface removed. So for the entry to be there and set to true it has been that way since Version 2

I currently have version 31.4.0. I view this as a bug, regardless of everything else before this release. It may have been deprecated back then but it solves the problem now. :) Cheers.

Why is it not default? Good question. I have been using Thunderbird for at least 10 years and I'll admit that the old profile has been transferred along over the years. I cannot say from when though, because I have reinstalled many times. Hmmm, default you say? Ok, I'll take that information as, if I installed my mail client and profile from scratch then the problem would never exist now. :) Cool!
