Go to Tools >> Options >> General, there is an input box where you can type the url that you want as home page.

or

Go to about:config page, search for this option "browser.startup.homepage" change its value to an url that you want, or about:home(default) or about:blank(blank page)

To what program did you switch the home page?

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Don't worry, I have been too such situation a lot.

1. Firefox -> preferences/Options -> Within homepage type www.google.com (if you want google search engine). Click Ok

2. Now once you returned to the main firefox window where websites etc. are displayed when you type the address in address bar.

Right side of address bar ( i.e. to right column) there will be a down arrow click it and select google and remove useless search engines from it
