when I open a saved web page or link from an email a tab opens in firefox for ask.com search

I think that it may be the NewTab extensions that are installed on your Firefox.

Note that your System Details List shows two New Tab extensions.

  1. New tab 5.0.0.10433
  2. New Tab 5.0.0.7384
