JAVA-scripts freezes and need to be force closed
I'm running Firefox 20.0.1 on Win7 x64 and all of a sudden, all JAVA-scripts freezes and i can do nothing but wait. After about 30sec i get a message saying that...
'A script on this page may be busy or have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or wait for the script to complete' (or similar).
I get the message in Swedish so it's roughly translated. I included some screenshots of the error (all from different pages).

It works fine in safe mode and when i disable JAVA. I can't think of anything more right now, and i actually need to write this message using Chrome because i can't get here using Firefox anylonger.
It sucks and really need your help. Thanks!

Epicaleb>> Yes, you got it correct. Same issue in SafeMode when JavaScript is enabled.
I did the about:config but everything related to 'javascript' was already set to default. I also installed AVG Free and found a couple of malicious files but did not fix anything.
I downloaded Aurora and i hate to say it, but got the exact same problem there. First random online newspaper i visited resulted in the page freezing and then a prompt about an unresponsive javascript appeared after about 30sec. See the screenshot.
Isn't there any kind of debug mode or similar where we can get logs or something that might be useful?
Just saw what you wrote concerning about:support. Going to check it out. Thanks.

Epicaleb>> Been a week since i had time to continue the troubleshooting. I checked about:support but don't think i found anything odd. I made a screenshot of the information in case you can see anything i might overlook (in Swedish/English unfortunately).
In other words, i still have the same problem =( It feels so drastic to reinstall Windows to get rid of it.
Thanks again.
One last idea:
Try installing Firefox Nightly. If that fails...
Back up your files.
Bust out your Windows disk.
Sigh...re-install...
I'm terribly sorry that I couldn't help more!
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
Yes. Cor-el has a good suggestion.
cor-el>> Thank you, but as posted on 5/12/13 4:42 PM i already tried creating a new Firefox profile. I even tried creating a new Windows profile.
Epicaleb>> I just tried the Nightly version (24.0a1) but, guess what, i still have the problem :(
Can't really understand it. And only in Firefox (and Aurora). Just crazy :(
Not sure what else to do than to reinstall Windows. However, it's so much work for such a "small" thing.
I dig you guys for trying to help out.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
Gissar att du pratar svenska? Har själv haft det här problemet ett tag nu och tror jag precis hittade lösningen. Har du BankID installerat? (Nya E-legitimationen man måste ha)
cor-el>> I have no Realplayer Browser Record plugin installed what i know of. I'll check the suggestions about Flash though.
Have been using Waterfox for a while which works great.
MalinMolle>> Japp, svenska :) Tack! BankID är faktiskt installerat på den datorn och kommer att kolla det senare ikväll efter jobbet.
Will report in english if MalinMollen's suggestion gave results.

Det kan vara ditt BankID som är boven, gå till http://support.bankid.com/sv/supportbankidcom/FragorSvar/Tekniska-fragor/ Klicka på "Hur hanteras scriptvarning i Firefox?"
Interesting thread. Great advice. I had this problem for months. I just did an about:config and found: services.sync.prefs.sync.pref.advanced.javascript.disable_button.advanced;was set to "false", changed it back to "true" and this seems to have resolved the freeze issue. Your mileage may vary...
Thank you jcb44. I have already given up on this but will check when i get back home from work.
MalinMolle>> I did not have BankID installed on my laptop where the problem resides (just my stationary computer which works fine) so that did unfortunately not solve the issue.
I've been using Mozilla Waterfox for some time instead to at least being able to use all the Mozilla addons which have been working great.
false hope. that config setting seemed to work...but it doesn't. sorry about that...
services.sync.prefs.sync.pref.* prefs only set which prefs are send to the sync server as part of syncing prefs (true means to sync this pref). Such prefs have no other effect.
