How do I turn off the window maximizing feature when I click the top window frame?
Clicking on the top window frame causes Firefox to maximize. This is the only program I have that does this, so I am constantly doing this accidentally. It causes me no end of annoyance, having to minimize the Firefox window every time to see the other window I am using at the same time. Is there a way of turning this "feature" off? I have looked through all controls tabs I can find, and the help files on the Firefox website, and can find no answers to this.

hello wdwerries, i don't think that is anything that comes with firefox (at least intentionally)... one click on the title bar should select a program, click & drag will move the window & a double-click will maximize it, this is the normal handling of windows in win xp.
Unintended consequences ... my favorite kind! New information - this appears to be a Windows issue - sorry Mozilla. Another app (Word) just started doing the same thing (previously only observed with Firefox). If the app is too close to the top of screen, and you select it, and slightly move it, it maximizes. I heard this is standard in Windows 7, but I am using XP. This is becoming typical of the annoying hubris of Microsoft that will likely make my next OS Linux. I am not blind, and in need of Microsoft making a single window maximally readable, especially at the expense of all the other windows. If I wanted my computer to make all of my decisions for me, I would have stuck with Apple!
Sorry Mozilla help board - I just had to get it off my chest!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
wdwerries, no problem. however i'm not sure if you can pin it to microsoft too - this problem can also be caused by a defect mouse that registers a single click as doubleclick (have experienced that myself not long ago). if you have another handy i'd try if it works with that one...
Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't produce different results. I usually use a wireless mouse, but plugged in a USB mouse. Also checked mouse settings to make sure I didn't brain-dead anything. I'm not really sure how to set something up to record and count mouse clicks without waaaaaay more effort than it is worth ... though I might try to gen-up something in Python, just for code practice (I'm an engineer, I'm told my idea of fun is a bit weird). And, of course, now I can't get it to do it at all! Aaaaaaaargh!
Just started happening with FireFox. I'm on XP, FF 20.0
I hate it when every time I try to move the window it maximizes. None of the windows for other software has this behavior. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.
Is there a workaround? - maybe in the settings?
