adobe flash demands plugin after it is installed
there are over 100,000 firefox users who cannot watch a video and have to shut you down and use internet explorer. You have had thousands of questions and you have not answered any of us. We all installed the 32 bit flash as you instructed; It does not work!!! If you cannot fix your problem we are all going to dump your browser in the trash.

First off, it might not even be legal for Mozilla to fix Flash, it is a proprietary, closed source application which limits the availability to its' source code.
Second, Mozilla's resources are limited. Any time that they would spend coming up with a patch for Flash would be taken away from working directly on Firefox code.
Third, crash reports are probably what Mozilla goes by when determining the severity of a problem. Wild anecdotal guess-timates about how many users are affected (raw numbers of users or the per centage of installations which are affected) isn't going to impress Mozilla.

Are you using Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit OS?

Firefox is a 32-bit application. Try (1) downloading the 32-bit installer, SAVE it to your hard drive, (2) close all browsers, (3) run the installer and (4) test.
- Direct 32-bit manual installer link at Adobe: download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_32bit.exe
After install
- use Firefox to go to this link to test: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
- then use IE (if you have it installed) to go to the same link to test

The current Flash installer detects your OS (32-bit or 64-bit) and is intended to install both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Flash on 64 bit systems with 64- and 32-bit browsers. After seeing so much online with problems experienced by users of 64-bit OSes, I am beginning to suspect a possible problem with Adobe's Flash installer for 64-bit OSes.
ALWAYS remember when updating Flash on a system with both IE and another browser, that you MUST update both individually by going to the download page with IE then with the other browser.

you keep posting the same response, but what you recommend does not work. so we are all stuck. and it is not only videos that will not play. I get the demand for a flash update on almost every web page I use

Are you aware that there are 2 versions of Flash? One for IE only and one for other browsers. Have you updated both?

Yes, I am well aware that there are multiple vcrsions of adobe flash. I have uninstalled the programs and reinstalled them for both browsers multiple times. I have been using firefox for many years, but this is really testing my patience. there is clearly a bug in your browser and you need to fix it.
On my XP system,
- I have Firefox versions 3.6.24, 8.0.1, and 9beta installed with separate profiles.
- I have had no problems updating Flash; never have.
With the millions (hundreds of millions) of Firefox users worldwide, there would be a much larger outcry if the problem was with Firefox. The problem that you are experiencing lies with your computer, maybe your firewall, or a browsers virtualization program (like Sandboxie or ZoneAlarm Extreme, etc.), or the method(s) you are using to try to update.

I am a retired individual trying to help others. I do not have a PhD in anything, but have almost 30 years experience with desktop computers (since the first IBM-PC was introduced). I have trained individuals, privately and for organizations as an employee, have written software manuals, and have done some programming. I am, by no means, a light-weight. I have been using Mozilla products for years and would think of using nothing else.
If you are not willing to try the suggestions, and there are too many in the article at the Adobe site that I pointed you toward for you to have tried in this short time, then I can not help you and probably no one else here can help you.

this is the first of three pages from windows 7 users who cannot download adobe flash on firefox. It simply will not download, which I can reliably say having tried all possible solutions listed here and on the adobe website. and yes, I turned off my firewall. the following sampling stands for about 100,000 users. so yes, the problem is with the system, not with us. please note the quote "107 people have this problem, 16 new this week" and that was many weeks ago

I will send a letter by overnight mail to corporate headquarters in California tomorrow, since they have no email address or phone number. I think they will be interested to know that 10 million customers can no longer use their browser and will be moving to chrome.
I'm curious where you came up with 10 million users having a problem with Flash in Firefox?
Especially since your first statement was 100,000 users.
I did not realize that mozilla was a global browser. Worldwide users of windows 7 would easily number in the tens of millions. I located a phone number for corporate and left a message informing them of the problem. I will try to speak to someone there tomorrow when they open. I can download chrome without much trouble and replace the browser. But I will now have to get rid of thunderbird and get a new mail system. And that is a huge problem since I operate a business.
Just to be clear - there is no information here or at adobe that addresses of fixes the problem. I therefore surmise that firefox, adobe flash and windows 7 are an incompatible combination.
So I guess that you're just pulling those numbers out of the air.
As far as Mozilla knowing about the problems related to Flash, they know - especially with the large numbers of Firefox crash reports they receive which are related to Flash. IMO, Adobe Flash is hanging on by a thread; Apple has already banned Flash from their most popular devices, the iPhone and the iPad. Support for Flash on other mobile devices is disappearing a little here and a little there, due to various problems. The days of Flash being needed are limited, as more and more websites switch to HTML video.
I guess I will have to wait for html video to reach all sites to use firefox. I would be thrilled if adobe flash would just go away and stop bothering me. But as of today, I cannot use the multiple sites I need without it. ergo I cannot use firefox. In any case the problem is not just video. It shows up on all live java sites. And I really don't have time for this stuff. As for the numbers it is an estimate of the nunber of windows 7 computers in use in the northern hemisphere attempting to use mozilla as a browser.
You know, if users like you would complain to the websites using Flash about the problems with Flash and urge them to switch to HTML5 video/ audio or for those websites to make it an option, that might accelerate the changeover to HTML5 video/audio and kill the need for plugins like Flash. Google has been testing HTML5 video on YouTube for quite awhile with good success with some browsers and they are keeping Flash as an option until the W3C decides as to whether H.264 or OGG/Theora or WebM become the "standard".

Microsoft and Apple are the two browsers which stand out as supporting H.264 which is a patented format; both those companies are partial owners of the group that owns H.264, which is expensive for whoever creates video in that format (free for users, at least for the time being).
Mozilla is backing OGG (which is a free open container format)/Theora (which is in the public domain, and thus free) and both are free for those who create with those formats and for user's - forever. WebM is now owned by Google is royalty free for both creators and user's.
Both Google and Mozilla are pushing for free and open standards for HTML5 video/audio formats, where Microsoft and Apple are pushing for the standard to help their "bottom lines".
thanks. that is good information. I can certainly notify the websites . I just figured that there was some patch mozilla could add to fix this, but it may not be that easy.

Well adobe flash does not crash the computer or crash firefox. it just disables each individual website. that is why I published here the search results, showing pages of users reporting the same problem. If you search that question here, you will find, in sum, thousands of users describing the same problem. Most just said, okay, I will use explorer instead. I went to all of this trouble because mozilla is going to lose a lot of users. If they can;t fix the problem because of proprietary concerns, then we certainly cannot fix it either. Maybe once we have all moved on they will figure out that they have a problem and deal with it.
