I cannot eliminate unwanted bookmarks, or create folder. Is this foreseen?

I do not understand how the bookmarking system works. I have created one folder but no others have allowed themselves to be created. I tried to import old bookmarks from my Camino 2.09 and safari but this was a disaster. I cannot eliminate any bookmark but it is chance when I manage to create a bookmark, but never where i want it. I do not understand why I am using this system rather than Camino 2.09

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
